    Hi ladies,
I found out 2 weeks ago at a scan I wasn't going to have - big surprise! I'm very excited but also very scared, all I have heard so far is all the risks. I have had 2 previous straightforward pregnancies and I don't feel I can just relax and enjoy this one. I am excited to find a seemingly active and supportive community of people who might understand how hard it is to be rational with all these pregnancy hormones and all the scary talk! The number of people who think 'just be positive' is actually constructive!!!

I was terrified, there seemed like there was so much to worry about when pregnant with twins - then add in the identical factor, and it about set me over the edge! We found out we were having mono-di twins at our 13 week ultrasound.I had had such a simple, no stress pregnancy my first time around. Anyway, all went fine - as most of the pregnancies do - despite my fears. Read around this site, you'll see many, many healthy, thriving identical twins!

I won't tell you not to worry - because I know that is darn near impossible - but try to remind yourself of all of the success stories out there. I think I read that 15% of identical twins will develop TTTS, that means 85% DO NOT! :) How often are you being monitored by your doctor? Are you seeing an OB or did your OB transfer you to a Peri or MFM?

I drank Boost Protein shakes my entire pregnancy, it made me feel better.

 You have found an excellent place to get support! Congrats on your very exciting twin pregnancy!! It is quite an amazing ride!

Twin pregnancy freaked me out, too. :) My boys were delivered happy and healthy, 2 days shy of 38 weeks. Listen to your body- it will tell you when to slow down and take it easy. & :welcome: to TS!

I agree, the twin pregnancy also freaked me out. I felt like a first time mom again. Congrats on your twins!

Thanks for your replies! Glad I'm not the only one who found this hard to get my head around. These are mono-di twins also. I am seeing an obstetrician for the first time on thursday, I will be staying under the care of my midwife, not sure how much I will need to see the obstetrician. I have my next scan the following week (I think) and I will have midwife appointments or scans every week which will be reassuring.
I know (in the small remaining rational part of my brain)that the odds aren't too bad that everything will be fine and it helps reading people's experiences on here.
Protein shakes sound like a good option, I had no idea how exhausting pregnancy could be!!

Hi and welcome to TS! You've definitely found the right place to be, for your pregnancy. Try not to worry too much, don't google too much either, it will just scare you silly!

You will probably find that you will have to have regular scans to check fluid levels often, I found that after about the 5th scan, it got a little boring lol! It was nice to just lie there and close my eyes for a little while, a little like mediation..!

Even though you will be under the care of your midwife, it might get recommended later that your scans are looked at by a specialist to check for fluid levels and such.

Rest often, and get as much prepared as early as you can, because for me, I found later in the pregnancy very hard, with not being able to move around much. Build up a good support network (especially ones to bring you cooked meals for the first month with twin newborns!)

Take care of yourself! Are you going to find out the sex of the babies?

Thanks for the welcomes, I'm glad to be here! Twinkler, I decided to stay with my midwife as she has a nursing background and has delivered lots of twins (one way or another!!!) and I built a rapport with her before I knew I had 2 on board. She has an obstetrician she works closely with so I am having a shared care situation. So I will be overseen by the specialist but I'll see her fortnightly and she'll do my post natal care and hand holding as required.
And yes, Mr Google helped me find this site but was just redeeming himself from scaring me with cold hard facts and figures!!!

I was in the same situation as you - two previous, easy pregnancies. My twins were a shocker. Our only scare was that my OB - who was a high-risk, experienced guy - couldn't find a membrane separating the two babies until around 20 weeks. My twins were mono-di and I delivered without any pre-term labor scares at 38+5. I was hell bent on a particular birthday and sat down a lot with my legs crossed toward the end ...

Good luck - you'll love TS! It's fun to still lurk around years later, too ...

  10. Hi, efaith. I'm in a similar position, though I found out a bit earlier when I had a US for dating (9 weeks). Glad to know I'm not the only one freaking out after uneventful singleton pregnancies. I'm definitely much more worried now than I ever have been before, even with my first! Very good to read all the successful stories of uneventful twin pregnancies here.
